I’m Tim

I’ve been captivated by birds since I was a kid. Thirty years later, I still get a buzz from hearing the local Blackbirds singing in the morning.

I grew up in Birmingham, visiting local reserves with my Dad on weekends.

I came to York for Uni and that’s where my passion for birds really kicked in. My life slowly became more and more about birds.

Regular trips out to the Yorkshire coast. Visiting remote Scottish islands to find rare birds and trips around Europe to see as many birds as possible.

After graduating I lived at Spurn Bird Observatory for nearly two years. One of the best places to witness bird migration in the UK.

Everyday was a school day, new birds arriving, new sounds and sights. I quickly realised how much there is to learn.

Since then I’ve been lucky enough to work with birds professionally, on RSPB reserves, doing surveys across the country, organising conservation projects and living at some of Europe’s most epic migration sites.

Every day I hear or see something that makes me stop and think, aren’t birds ace. A Dunnock chortling its song.

A family group of Starlings. A Whitethroat fresh in from a winter in West Africa. That never gets old. Now I’m wanting to spread my love of birding and try and encourage more people to learn about and appreciate the birds around them everyday.

Birding is brilliant because there’s not many places you can’t do it, step outside virtually anywhere and you’ll see/hear some birds!
